French Tuitions

French is delivered by a native, qualified and experienced (20 years) teacher. Book an intensive course, over half-term or during the holidays, or a weekly lesson to prepare for A Level, GCSE, Common Entrance or Scholarship exam. Weekly lessons are perfect for young learners too.

Sophie Carnell transformed my daughter’s attitude to the French language by her patience and understanding. She is precise without being dull and always encouraging. Even with the use of zoom lessons the teaching was highly effective. I never thought Mathilda would achieve what she did In her exam and we are so grateful that she now has a good foundation to take her forward to her senior school.

Sophie Carnell has taught both my older children to prepare them for different exams.  My eldest saw Sophie for 1-1 tutoring in French to help him prepare for his Common Entrance scholarship and the impact these sessions had on his progress and learning was quite simply 'miraculous'!  Having initially thought he wouldn't choose French as an 'option' he ended up achieving an 'A' in the scholarship paper and I have no doubt Sophie made this possible.

My other son was struggling with his confidence in French whilst preparing for his Common Entrance exam and Sophie provided endless encouragement and support and he is now hoping for a high mark in his forthcoming exam.  She makes it fun, engaging and accessible and I honestly can't thank her enough.

She is the kindest, most wonderful and thoughtful teacher and I cannot recommend her highly enough for all French tuition, whether it be to help in passing an exam or indeed to give your child the confidence to believe in themselves.  Having taught for 26 years myself, I believe I can spot a wonderful teacher and she is truly the best!

Best thing I have done since retirement! At the age of 67 the only French word I knew was 'bonjour' but with Sophie’s help, in less than a year I have learnt more than I thought possible. Sophie is kind and patient with a lovely sense of humour, she is a very good ‘professeur’, who comes  highly recommended. Je suis reconnaissant!

Sophie is tutoring my son with a friend for GCSE AQA French on Saturday. Since they started in September, there has been a significant improvement in both spoken and written French (with expected grades of 7 and 8 at GCSE). Sophie manages to cover an enormous amount within an hour and half and as an experienced teacher, she strikes a brilliant balance between fun and hard work.  As a result, there has never been  any complaints about an extra French lesson on the weekend from both teenagers, which is high praise indeed!

Thomas thoroughly enjoyed the sessions, learning a lot in a short period of time from a great teacher who manages to explain everything in an understandable way!

Sophie is such an encouraging and enthusiastic teacher! She has taught Fin as a school teacher and as a tutor for his CE exams. As a tutor Sophie helped Fin to have such confidence in his ability to speak and write French. As a result he did very well and enjoys the subject. Now he is enthusiastic about continuing with French at his senior school, having previously worried about it. We would recommend Sophie as a tutor, as she teaches in such a caring way!
